Men who listen to their wives when buying a car
Why do men listen to their wives when buying a new car? Women go mainly for looks. Factors like fuel-efficiency and performance don't concern most of them. There is a man who listened to his wife when deciding on which new car to buy. His wife prefered the Nissan Sunny as she thought it looked better than a Corolla Altis. So he ended up buying a petrol-guzzling 1.6L(A) Nissan Sunny
instead of a Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6L(A).
Worse still, the Sunny has inferior acceleration power compared to the Altis. The Sunny's petrol consumption was so high there were months when this man, who sells phonecards to various vendors around the island for a living, chalks up petrol bills close to $1,000!
While Toyota and Honda have managed to manufacture cars that are fuel-efficient, the likes of Mazada, Mitsubishi and Nissan are still trailing far behind in this aspect. While Honda and Toyota are using lighter metals and materials to build their cars, Nissan is still using chunky, heavy metal parts.
According to its manufacturer, the new Honda Civic 1.8L(A)
sips petrol like a 1.5L(A) car. It sure as hell is cool driving a 1.8L(A) Civic which sips petrol like a 1.5L(A) Toyota Vios.

Or they listen to their wives for fear of being nagged throughout the lifespan of the car?!
So whether a man listens to his wife and buys a car she likes which has poor performance and guzzles petrol or buys a car she doesn't like but has superior performance and petrol-efficiency, he's darned.
right man! if i listen to my wife i would had ended driving a 7-seater van around town. she was looking at the toyota wish and honda stream. we ended up buying the toyota axio 1.5A.
To See Fei: Good for you pal! :D Corolla Axio is a good car. By buying it from a parallel importer, you have practically jumped the gun on those who will be getting it from Borneo Motors. Just for info, the Japan-made Axio and Belta currently offered by PIs now will be launched by Borneo Motors later as their new made-in-Thailand respective replacements for Corolla and Vios models.
Nissan will not overtake Toyota and Honda.
>> By buying it from a parallel importer, you have practically jumped the gun on those who will be getting it from Borneo Motors.
--> However, it is troublesome. You have to register for this and there from LTA whereas the agent or Borneo Motors have already done that for you. Save time and convenience.
Speaking of fuel efficiency, Toyota and Honda got the best results.
Toyota Prius Hybrid and Honda Civil Hybrid are two examples of 1 litre - more than 20km.
To Lao Xing Zhou: Yeah. Nissan will always lose out to Honda and Toyota. Buying from parallel importers may be a bit more hassleful but it has not hindered car buyers from doing so. In fact, parallel importers have been reporting brisk business. Buying from a parallel importer also means you get to drive a car which most other people don't have. Yeah, Toyota Prius and Honda Civic hybrids are excellent ways to save on petrol bills.
Hybrid cars are fuel efficiency but it is expensive.
I love the new Toyota Belta. 1 litre go for 19.6km and cost only $54699.
Yes a Toyota Prius can do up to 30km on 1 liter of petrol! :D But it costs around $90k! :p Toyota can't sell it as cheaply as its other petrol cars because of its technologically-advanced and expensive parts.
i love the new Belta too. Word has it that the new Vios offered by Borneo Motor will be a Belta. The Belta offered by parallel importers has a 1.3L(A) version.
Okay, I will aim for Toyota Vios as my first car in the future.
If you look at COE price, it is rising insanely. All thanks to that LTA. They kept using the excuse of "controlling car population" to make us (the car owner) went mad.
To Lao Xing Zhou: Not sure if there's still a Vios by the time you can buy your 1st car :) Just like the Soluna was phased out to make way for Vios :) Whatever replacement comes behind Vios, we can rest assured it will have good fuel-efficiency and acceleration power :)
To Lao Xing Zhou: Yup. 2006 was bumper year for COEs as its quota was high since a lot of people scrapped their old cars. The high quota helped to drive down the COE prices. Now that the quota will be reduced, COE prices naturally are going up too. No surprise if prices reach around $20k level this year. Should have gotten the Picanto earlier heh?
You would have gotten the Picanto with a cheaper COE if you done so earlier. Come June, COE prices will definitely be higher than in 1st 3 months of 2007. Then again, if you're getting a weekend car. You won't be affected as much if COE prices go up.
The man who incharge of the importing and exporting of cars, said that this COE hike won't last till June. So it means that mid-year holidays are peak month for car business. Surely, they will lower down the COE price.
To Lao Xing Zhou: Still, it would have been better to get a $7.5k COE in February. `Cos COEs are probably not going to drop below $10k for the rest of this year.
I am not rich enough to buy Picanto this month or next month or last month. Must wait till June for the increased family income.
To Lao Xing Zhou: Your family income will go up in June? You mean your brother will get a higher-paying job?
Yes. I have come a long way for this day. From non-air con bus to air-con bus then to a private car.
Cool. This is your family car. In time to come, you will upgrade to have your own car too :)
