Low Birth Rate

The Chinese population in Singapore has been experiencing low birth rates for many years. The birth rates are so low there are not enough babies to replace Singapore's ageing and dying population.

Some of the usual reasons or excuses, for not giving birth to enough children or not giving birth to any children at all, given by Chinese include:
1. Money not enough.
2. Kids rob me of my freedom, time and happiness.

Somehow, the Malay population in Singapore doesn't seem to have as severe a problem as the Chinese do when it comes to maintaining a healthy birth-rate. They seem to be people of greater faith. A typical Malay man can be taking home a pay of just S$1,400. His wife is not working. And they can have up to 4 kids!

Without the government attracting immigrants from China, Singapore would have reverted to a Malay kampong in a matter of decades.

>> Money not enough.

This is why money is so important in life.

>> Kids rob me of my freedom, time and happiness

--> A lame excuse. How about people in those poor countries, without proper supplies of food and water, living in slum houses and unhygienced environment? They still giving birth to kids because they are responsible of paving a bridge to the next generation, despite no freedom, no happines and time. People of the developed countries are quite irresponsible and ignorant. Yes, the Chinese, especially.

The Chinese lose to the Malays in this area.

It's definitely not the money that matters. It's already clearly shown by the Malays to be a myth that money matters in the birth equation.

The second point is more valid. It's got to do with the changing cultures of Chinese people. But I think most likely, it's got to do with the fact that there are simply too much things for people to do and pursuit.
