Saying "Thank You" To The Driver

Have you had the following experience?

You give someone a lift in your car. And after sending that someone to his desired destination, he doesn’t thank you at all.

I think it’s basic courtesy to say “Thank you” to the driver who gives you a lift. I always thank the driver who gives me a lift.

But somehow I have a friend who has not thanked me on at least 2 counts after I have given her a lift. Maybe I should stop giving lift to her? Nah. That would be nasty.

There are just certain people who are quick to say “Thank you” to the driver after being given a lift and those who don’t do so at all either because they have totally forgotten about it or they just can’t be bothered with exercising such a basic pleasantry.

Forgetting to say “Thank you” is quite inexcusable under the following circumstance:

2 persons are getting the lift and they are both alighting at the same place.

One would say “Thank you” to the driver while the other doesn’t do so.

I think if someone doesn’t thank you at all for giving them a lift in your car, you would probably be a bit upset too, wouldn’t you? You might even curse at the person after you drive your car off and vow never to give the same person any more lift.

Doesn't she at least say goodbye when she gets out of the car. If she doesn't say thank you or even goodbye, then I think it's time you "disowned" her as a friend. LOL!

I mean, I even thank H if he comes to fetch me out to lunch. Of course, if I was the one who drove, he would never thank me...

My wife thanks me every morning when i fetch her to work. It's basic courtesy :)

If you don't mind your hubby not thanking you for fetching him to some place, then i guess it's okay for him to not thank you for it :p

But i think since you always thank your hubby for fetching u out to lunch, he should reciprocate the thanksgiving :)

My wife always says talking to me is like talking to the wall. I don't reply much. Problem is: I think and take too long to answer her questions :p

I have a colleague who when people forget to say 'thank you' would say it (with raised tone jokingly) to the other person, sort of to trigger it from the other party. It works mostly.

There is another basic grace that people aren't aware of: do not slam the car doors!

To HS: You mean your colleagues says Thank you to the person he gives a lift to and gets that person to thank him? :) Interesting :)

To Serene: You're the kind of passenger i don't mind giving a lift to over and over again :)

To LM: I can't agree with you more. i get pissed too when people slam my car door so bloody hard. i usually avoid having to give them any more lift if they do so.
