Plastic Cover Still Not Taken Out Yet!
Lunch Is Served wrote about being in such a hurry, after getting her brand new Suzuki Vitara, to get to the nearest petrol station to top up petrol for the car, that she forgot to tear out the plastic covering her car seats.
With regards to plasic cover of new car seats, we usually tear it out once we get the car.
But there aree actually people who don’t tear tear out the plastic cover.
My mother-in-law has had her dining table set for around 7 years already. But to this day, can you imagine that the transparent plastic cover covering her dining leather chairs has still not been torn off yet!
Then she also has a same-block neighbor who drives an SFW plate Suzuki Liana. This car is over 3 years old already. Yet the car owner still has not removed the plastic covering the seats!
Can you believe that such people actually exist!
They would rather let their asses sit in warm discomfort and protect their leather seats, than tear out and discard the plastic cover.
Are these people downright weird or do they cherish their earthly possessions over everything else, including their own butt, too much?

Aiyoh... that's nothing lah. A relative of mine (who shall remain unidentified) has covered her living room sofa with a very thick plastic sheet that she cut and pasted into shape. It's not the thin flimsy one that comes with the new furniture you know? When I was young, like 5 years old, the sofa was new. Now, the sofa is still in her living room, and still covered in the SAME plastic sheet!!!! The plastic sheet is already yellow and cracked. And every Chinese New Year when we visit, we sit on that strange thing. YUCK!
To LIS: Looks like my MIL is not alone in having this idiosyncracy of hers afterall :p i think she would probably leave her dining chairs covered in plastic until the day she goes to meet her Maker :p
To LIS: I just can't comprehend why these people can tolerate the discomfort of sitting down on chairs covered in plastic. Obviously they care for and love their leather chairs way much more than their own asses. They want to go all out to preserve and protect their chairs at the expense of everybody's asses including their own :p
I think it's a mentality of the generation before ours. If you noticed, only middle-aged or elderly owners of newish cars still have the plastic coverings on their seats and sun-visors.
My own mother had a dining set, of which she also refused to remove the shrink wrap on the "pleather" seats of the chairs. It's not the loose plastic bags but something like Saran Wrap for food. Wah lau! Luckily I got married and didn't have to sit on those chairs for long. And you know what? 10 years later, they threw away the set with the plastic covers STILL on the seats. My brother moved back with my parents and he bought them a new marble and wood dinning seat (like those in old kopitiams). If my mom was going to leave the plastic wrap on the marble seats of the chairs, I'm very sure my brother will have a heartattack lah...
wah new car! never show the full bodywork? wifey is extremely particular about price tag and plaster cover. must tear out double quick!!
To LIS: Yaloh. Only people born in the 40s and 50s would keep their furniture wrapped up in plastic :p
Your mum kept the plastic cover on her dining seats until the day she threw them away? Unbelievable :p i think my MIL would also do exactly the same thing :p
To SF: No new car lah. I'm just writing on a topic i find interesting. My only reason for tearing out the plastic quickly is for the sake of comfort. The plastic cover is uncomfortable, warm and noisy to sit on :p
OMG I really cant comprehend this! Dun ppl buy good and nice sofa/chairs so they can sit comfortably? bought something so comfy, nice and ex but in the end sit on plastic wraps and for so many freaking years? So uncanny!
So far I have not come across anyone like this.. am I lucky or wat?! haha..
I guess most people think it is still like new when people see it. Or to protect from spills until they get dirty and they will tear it out.
To Serene: Yaloh. Crazy and incomprehensible right? Cover comfy leather with plastic wrap. Siao! :p You're very fortunate indeed you don't have to put up with such crap from anyone around you, whom you know :)
To Ming1881: It's an absolutely crazy and ridiculous obsession in wanting to keep one's leather sofa seats protected. What's the point of buying a nice comfy leather seats if you want to keep it wrapped up in plastic the whole time? Siao! :p
In the past generation, things do last, and r actually made to last. So people do try to take care of their stuff. Not like what is now today.
i know of some ppl like that too. funny ha.. they want to feel the new feeling :)
