Envy

Human beings are negative by nature. So more often than not, you hear people whining and complaining about what they don’t have.

When we focus on what we don’t have and fail to count our blessings, we grumble and complain.

Counting our blessings is a sure cure for grumbling.

But how can we help but be envious of our neighbors who are better off than us? Those who make much more money than us. Those who drive bigger cars, live in bigger houses, go for expensive holidays in faraway exotic locations.

How can you not be envious of your peers who are doing much better than you financially either by joining the civil service, signing on with SAF as a regular or doing either insurance or property sales?

The bottomline is: It’s hard for someone, who earns peanuts and struggles to make ends meet every month, not to envy his peers whose incomes are much higher than his.

To Serene: You mean a big dog with a small bone doesn't get envious of a small dog with a big bone? :p

Are you in the midst of envying somebody now?

I think envy is a necessary emotion. It's the driving force to strive for better things in life right?

I try not to envy someone who has everything (lot's of money, big house, several sport cars, etc..) as having a satisfying enjoyment with what i do with my family is good enough for me. Sure it would be nice & convenient to have everything and when you have that your whole life may change completely for better or worst.

To LIS: I'm not just in a momentary moment of envying someone better off than me. I've been in this perpetual state of envy ever since i started to know what's going on as a kid :p

It certainly is a driving force for us to get what we want. But i still believe it's quite limited in certain ways. Some people are just not cut out for doing sales because of their personality just doesn't suit it.

Then there are those who are born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

Afterall, it's not what we know but who we know that determines whether we are better off or worse off than people around us.

To Ming1881: i guess you're probably better off than a lot of your peers. Ha, ha, ha...! :D

To Serene: What if the big dog has finished licking the small bone given to it? Wouldn't the big dog then channel his attention to the small dog with the big bone? :p

Nice pictures. That one of Ben Stiller and Jack Black, I haven't seen before. Looking at that picture I wonder if it would make them envious of their own youth and fitter body. haha...

Have a nice day, Mockingbird. Cheerio!

Well, the feeling of envy has certainly helped me do better in school. I used to envy this girl who was really good at her school work, so I used her as my pacer. In the end, I never did do better than her, but at least, I improved :) And... we're still friends lah.
